"Biodiversity restoration of Mikuni Mountain and Akaya River Areas"
or the AKAYA PROJECT is a project to restore biodivesity of about 10 million
hectares of national forest "Akaya Forest" which spread from
northern Minakami town. The project is conducted by the Akaya Project Regional
Council, the Forest Agency Kanto Regional Forest Office and the Nature
Conservation Society of Japan.
As part of the AKAYA PROJECT, the Bat Study and Coservation Group of Japan
has been doing bat research at the Akaya area. To date, 11 species of bats
have been recorded in the Akaya Area.B
