There are 6758 species of mammals in the world. Almost one quarter of them (1527 species) are bats(the order Chiroptera) .There are 203 species in the Family Pteropodidae (the Fruit Bats) .(from mammal diversity database accessed on June 21, 2026) They live in subtropical and tropical areas of Africa, Asia, Australia, and all but the easternmost islands of Pacific .
